Corporate Energy Management from Invensys Named a Product of the Year by Plant Engineering Magazine
Out-of-the-box application cited for energy and operational excellence by readers
MARCH 22, 2011 / PLANO, TEXAS - Invensys Operations Management, a global provider of technology systems, software solutions and consulting services to the manufacturing and infrastructure operations industries, today announced that its Wonderware® Corporate Energy Management has won the Bronze Award in the Software category in Plant Engineering magazine’s annual Product of the Year contest.
Winners of the contest were selected by the magazine’s readers, comprised mostly of plant managers and engineers from leading global manufacturing organizations. The magazine’s panel of industry experts had determined award finalists from hundreds of entries, after which voters selected the finalists in more than a dozen categories of plant and manufacturing products.
“Energy management is one of the most critical issues manufacturing managers and engineers face today. It’s also one of the most difficult areas plant managers have to address,” said Bob Vavra, editor and content manager, Plant Engineering. “Our readers have identified the products they feel will help them run their plants more energy-efficiently. We’re happy to recognize Invensys with this year’s Product of the Year award on their behalf.”
The Wonderware Corporate Energy Management
allows plant personnel to monitor energy use in real-time and automatically notifies operators, supervisors and cost accountants of energy inefficiencies and waste. It connects directly to meters on a network, through industrial controllers or though building automation systems. The application is layered on top of the Wonderware System Platform, enabling integration with a wide range of industrial controllers, peer applications and I/O data sources. This unique approach enables direct integration with the process and adds essential context to energy usage, such as asset state, production results and operating parameters. Application functionality includes recording consumption and demand at main and submeters for a wide range of energy types, including power, water, chill, gas, air and steam. The current price for each energy type can be updated in real time to reflect the emerging wholesale markets for energy or the cost of site generation.
“Energy management at the enterprise level is a critical responsibility of plant managers, engineers and corporate management,” said Bill Schiel, director of energy management solutions at Invensys Operations Management. “So it is fitting that the buyers and users of plant equipment and solutions – the readers of Plant Engineering magazine – have recognized the Wonderware Corporate Energy Management as a way to manage the energy component of their variable costs in real time, as well as achieve organizational sustainability goals.”
